about

Wild Geese (Mary Oliver)

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting–
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

De Rerum Armolodia

‘Amazing summary of science and art, harmony and melody,
Ornette followed his path managing to examine the core
of things, nature, and the universe in an infinite cycle –
perhaps in spite of himself. In music its substance unveils
through our senses, whereas the presence of void and
silence, intervals, waits, and of the unsaid is brought forth
by reasoning and intellectual involvement. With the use of
partes minimae in mind, sound cells, in which harmolodic
teaching discloses and expands, its anchored syntax
is applied here. However there is infinitesimal divergence,
indeterminacy at the center of every possible explanation
of the world, a clinamen, a possibility for ‘une legère derive’
capable of destroying the constraint system: as Ornette’s
teaching – innovatively extended to the piano here –
eliminates differences between harmony and melody, so is
the nature of things in music a universe, an infinite globe,
whose center is everywhere and circumference nowhere.’
